X-Men   Vs   Streetfighter   by   Peter   Johnson

I order X-Men Vs Streetfighter via mail order for £65, it took 2 days
to arrive and the short wait was worth it. When I opened the
packaging, I removed a box containing the 4Mb RAM card which the game
won't run without. The game box was clear and only had the
instructions slotted inside with no pictures on the back which was a
little disappointing, but never mind because the game is bloodly
excellent.

Graphics 9.8/10

The graphics in this game are so cool its amazing! I was expecting
something good because of all the hype but what I got was something
very special indeed. The game starts with a short intro., just the
same as the arcade, and then this commentator says "This is X-Men Vs
Streetfighter" which gets you excited. You have the choice of arcade,
versus and then you have the options, I don't know if you get any
other extras yet because I haven't beat it on the highest difficult
setting. In arcade mode you get to pick your character from a
selection of the most popular X-men and Streetfighter, although I was
a little disappointed with the exclusion of Blanka who seems to have
disappeared since the old streetfighter days. You also have to pick a
second character which is where this game comes into its own. During
the game you can switch between alternative characters at will and
while one character is fighter the other rests and recuperates his/her
health energy, cool eh!

The animation of all the characters is spot on with definite
noticeable improvements over the Alpha games. The moves are really
good with super moves which really light up the screen, the inclusion
of combined super moves is here which means that both characters
appear on the screen to perform both there super moves at once, bye
bye baby if you get in the way of that.

The backgrounds are incredibly detailed and even change during the
same fight on some occasions. The 4Mb RAM card increase the Saturn’s
available memory and makes all of this possible, the most significant
difference is the loading times, remember Marvel Super Hero’s?, the
game was cool but the loading times sometimes spoilt the overall
presentation of the game. Not so with X-Men Vs Streetfighter, the 4Mb
RAM makes sure that the levels load up with almost no loading times at
all, just like in the arcade. The best is yet to come when you reach
the Boss, he fills the entire screen with his metallic body and his
huge fist slams down onto the screen sending shockwaves at your
character. Once you defeat him then you have to go head to head with
your second character to establish who is the greatest fighter of all.
All the characters have their own endings in classic Capcom style
which really shows the effort they have put into this game. If anyone
was wondering if they should buy this game if they already own SFA2
then the answer is simply yes.

Gameplay 10/10

The gameplay has made from the arcade straight to the Saturn, I was
recently at an arcade with a friend and saw X-Men Vs Streetfighter and
could not resist a go now that I had mastered some of the moves, the
game play was just the same and the only difference was the size of
the screen I was playing on. All the characters respond precisely
from the movements from the pad or joystick which brings me onto the
controls. Lets get this straight from here, if you don't already own
the Virtua Stick then go and buy one now, there only £20 and they make
the biggest difference in the world. Overall then if you have played
the game in the arcades then it plays the same on the Saturn.

Sounds 9/10

The sounds replicate the arcade version perfectly, with a blend of
remixed Street Fighter and X-Men tunes you really cannot go wrong.
The music really suits the game and helps build up suspense later in
the game when timing is crucial. The sounds of the characters are
good providing the classic Street Fighter sounds of Ryu and Ken and
grunts and howls are provided on cue.

Lastability 10/10

This games is massive! it will last you ages in one player mode but is
brilliant in two player, and like all fighting games the most
enjoyment is gained from fighting a friend.

Overall 10/10

The most arcade perfect conversion you can buy for the Saturn, its
just so perfect it has to earn full marks. If you can find it for
around £50-£60 you can buy yourself a game which has started a new
generation of Saturn software, the 4Mb RAM card kicks ass!
